A Shot in the Dark: Who should go on a date with the June bachelor?

Mary Beth Thomsen's column "Shot in the Dark" on Richmond.com

Wednesday June 8, 2005

Finally, all the hype I have been creating around the June column can be let loose!

I like to consider this month's bachelor a "quasi-celebrity" (my definition: if you Google someone's name and they have an entire page of results) in the Richmond business community. His name is Jim Roman and if you are a member of Business Networking International or frequent the Chamber of Commerce, he doesn't need an introduction.

If you don't fall into those categories, allow me to introduce this month's bachelor.

I attended a networking function at the Chamber and Jim was leading the event. I was so taken back by his charisma and presence in the room that once I got the all clear (no wedding ring), I knew I had to approach him for the column. Luckily he is a good sport and said he would give it a shot . . . in the dark.

I had to ask Jim what I figured everyone would want to know: why agree to participate in a dating column when you are so well-connected and recognized in Richmond?

"People for some reason assume that I have a girlfriend or that I'm not available," he said. "So although people may think I have all of these women who approach me, in actuality, that often doesn't happen. I am at a point in my life where I want to share it with someone. This column is putting me out there and I figured I'd give it a try."

Did Salt and Shannon sweep each other off their feet?

Richmond.com's Shot in the Dark blind date adventure continues...

"Salt," also known as Ryan, is a producer at Sports Radio 910 AM and weekend DJ on 102 The X. From the moment I met him, I knew he was going to bring some extra energy into this column. My instinct was correct, even down to the date itself.

Shannon, a 26-year-old kindergarten teacher, won the blind date with 43 percent of the votes.

And the winner is (drumroll please)

Every month through my match making adventures, I learn something new. Each person brings a unique attribute to the table and by far our May bachelor "Salt" (producer at Sports Radio 910 AM and also weekend DJ for 102.1 The X) has managed to bring some extra spice into A Shot in the Dark. I promised that the lucky lady who wins the blind date will have a great time, and that lady is Shannon!

The Richmond.com blind date

Richmond.com has a monthly "Shot in the Dark" which is their blind date exclusive.  They pick men and women from the Richmond community who have volunteered to be part of a blind date process.  The online viewers on Richmond.com then vote which participants they would pick for the blind date and then are able to follow the couple before, on and after the date to see what happens.

Here is the link to the first Shot in the Dark for May.
